Recorded live at Buell's Orchard in Eastford, CT, 10-13-08. I'm on fiddle, Paul Harty is on guitar, and my son Eric Eid Reiner is on piano. We didn't rehearse at all, just had fun playing tunes together, with arrangements on the fly!

Inspired by the Ashokan music camp, Jay Ungar wrote this fine 3/4 tune that became part of the theme music for the PBS Civil War series many years ago. This recording is from the Reiner Family Band's 2-CD set, 52 Traditional Tunes from Fiddle Hell: Played Fast and Slow, which is available at our website www.reinerfamilyband.com Hope you enjoy this version, with Eric Eid-Reiner on piano and me on fiddle.

Recorded live at Buell's Orchard in Eastford, CT, 10-13-08. I'm on fiddle, Paul Harty is on guitar and harmonica, and my son Eric Eid Reiner is on piano. This is more often played in F, but I like the key of D for a change.

I opened the Nov 8th concert at Fiddle Hell Massachusetts 2014, followed by Tom Morley, Matt Glaser, David Kaynor, Ed Pearlman, Alan Kaufman, Andy Reiner, Lissa Schneckenburger, Mark Simos, Eric Favreau, and Darol Anger. We each had about an 11-minute slot, and the concert was followed by a great contra dance. I can't post the whole concert (which was epic!), but I can post my short set. I played Perrodin Two-Step (in my Oldtime Fiddling Across America book) and Cajun Fiddle, In a Continental Mood (just once through), and a medley of Big Sandy River with Devil's Dream. My son Eric Eid-Reiner was on piano. I hope you enjoy these! The next Fiddle Hell Massachusetts will be Nov. 6-8, 2015, in Westford, MA.

Recorded live at Buell's Orchard in Eastford, CT, 10-13-08. Paul Harty sings this one really well! I'd love to post more vocals, but most are not public domain tunes. I'm on mandolin (a close relative of fiddle!), Paul is on guitar and harmonica, and my son Eric Eid Reiner is on piano.

This is from the Fiddle Hell Massachusetts concert on Nov. 7, 2015. I was backed up by my two sons: Eric Eid-Reiner on piano and Andy Eid Reiner on the other fiddle. I kicked off the concert with Bowing the Strings (with Eric only). Then we were joined by Andy for a medley of Old French and Fisher's Hornpipe, followed by Ghost (written by Pete Anick and Dave Reiner). The rest of the concert was of very high caliber, featuring Frank Ferrel (Down East), Laurel Martin (Irish), Pete Sutherland (Oldtime), Andrea Beaton (Cape Breton), Eric Favreau (French Canadian), Andy Reiner (World), Lissa Scheckenburger (Scottish), and Christian Howes (Jazz and Blues). After a quick playthrough of Andy Reiner's Cellosaurus Stomp, we moved 550 chairs out of the way and had a wonderful contradance with David Kaynor calling, the Fiddle Hell Band (50-strong) playing, and hundreds dancing.

Just a quick once through on fiddle the way I learned this tune. Needs a backup band!

A fine Irish jig! It's a short recording since it's on our 2-CD set "52; Traditional Fiddle Tunes from Fiddle Hell: Played Fast and Slow (Vol. 2)" and we had to put 52 recordings on each CD. I'm on fiddle, with my son Eric on piano and my wife Cindy on bodhr?n. Recorded in 2017.

My son Andy Reiner plays Cold Frosty Morning on our new instructional CD (52 Traditional Tunes from Fiddle Hell: Played Fast and Slow) from the Reiner Family Band. Andy's brother Eric Eid-Reiner is on piano (not traditional but tasteful :-). The 2-CD set is $15 postpaid in the US at www.reinerfamilyband.com

Recorded live at Buell's Orchard in Eastford, CT, 10-13-08. I'm on fiddle and my son Eric Eid Reiner is on piano. We learned this in Maine years ago from Rachel Maloney, a great oldtime fiddler. "Les Poules Huppees" in French.

Here's a short rendition of a great tune as I heard it played by Art Galbraith. My friend Pete Anick is on guitar. The B part is actually crooked, with two half measures. I transcribed this in my book Oldtime Fiddling Across America. Also, there's a version on YouTube where I'm playing this as part of a medley with David Surrette.

I'm on fiddle, with Pete Anick on guitar, recorded 19 years ago. Pretty close to Eck Robertson's version from 1922 (two parts in Bb and one in Gm), but it's a tough one to play well! Some fiddlers regularize the tune by omitting measure 4 of the 9-measure C part. Done Gone has been credited to Matt Brown, a Texas Panhandle fiddler stranded outside Amarillo and ignored by a car that zoomed by him.
