I just moved into the Baton Rouge area.
Apparently there is a festival called "Great Big Yam Potatoes Old Time Music Gathering" which is scheduled for this weekend in Natchez Mississippi.
Actually I heard about this festival a few years ago at "Breaking Up Winter".
For anyone close to Natchez, I hope to see you all there!Add Comment

Jamming around the campfire or playing on the back porch is where the real music is.
My fiddle experience level is somewhere between novice and intermediate, however there are not enough options in the profile to note that.

I played for about a year in the late 70's. But I got busy raising a family and going to school and sort of forgot about music. In September of 2006, I remembered my fiddle and started fiddling again. Things sure have changed. The electronic tuner and online mp3 music files really change things. Previously, I don't think I ever really got my fiddle in tune, and getting audio to practice to (usually on a cassette tape) was always rather difficult. Now, it is easy to get in tune, and easy to get songs to practice to. With just these two differences, I think that I have progressed ten times as fast this last year compared with the time I spent in the 70's.
