After spending almost 2 1/2 years in Arizona, I have come back east to my home in Ohio.
Right now it is raining cats and dogs. A tornado warning has been issued so apparently there is one in the vicinity.
I been playing with some very excellent Old Time musicians in Yellow Springs.
When I was out in Arizona, I typically had to travel a minimum of 200 miles to meet up with like minded musicians (those who like Old Time). Now it is about a half hour drive to Yellow Springs. The first time I joined up with their jam, they seemed shocked I drove that far.
I miss all my friends from out west. I do think that eventually I will move out there. Until then keep your fiddles bowed and your banjos plucked.

Hey, Jim! Welcome back to the East. I was out in Arizona, then Texas for 4 years. I didn't much care for the heat in Arizona, and I sure did miss the color green. But, I can only assume that you liked it, if you're going back someday.

Just like anything, there were some things to like about it and others to not like.
The lack of green is one of the things to not like.
My wife hates cold and snow. The time we spent down in the valley in Phoenix, when it was 120 degrees, heat didn't bother us too much.
Most of the time I was there I spent in the White Mountains. Up on the high plains at 7000 feet, the climate temperature wise is about the same as Ohio. The point is I didn't have to deal with the heat for an extended period. Typically I would take forays down into the valley or over to Albuquerque every couple of weeks.
It was kinda nice in the winter to head down to Phoenix to escape some of the cold.
Out east here though, it is a whole lot easier to find fellow musicians to jam with.

Check in with Paul, aka wormbower. He might be able to steer you to folks and areas out in AZ where the OT music is being played.
