This lesson shows how to play w/ the shuffle, and then how drones are used to dress up the tune.

I learned this one about 1984. From Milt & Tincy (like "tiny") Hooker, San Simon, AZ.

The purpose of posting this is so I can attempt to show the crooked B part that seems endemic in the upper midwest. Many others, including the source (Narmour & Smith) play the B part straight forward.

I wrote this song some years back after a visit to the Fiddler's Gathering. It attempts to portray some of the history of the place. There's a monument in the park that gives some of the salient details of the fighting that happened there.

I learned this about 16 yrs ago from fiddler phenom Joe Samogedney. It's in AEAE tuning. There is a 3rd part in Dear Old Ill. I wasn't aware of.

I got this tune from Jim Lansford, who cited Bill Caten as his source. Tuning is std. I played through the tune twice, and then slowed it down a bit so you could catch the notes and bowing. The tune is in 3 parts, key of G.

We play this tune in jams around here, but before this year I didn't know that Norman Edmonds had played it. Fiddle is tuned AEAE.

I recorded myself on my Eyepod. You'll have to excuse the drive noises. Otherwise I think the recording is fairly clear. This is an original tune from Banjo Billy.

This goes along with the thread currently running on double stops. I couldn't explain it in words, so here it is in sound.

Original tune from Craig Johnson. This is the prettiest tune you'll hear all day (if you listen to HIM play it). Tuning is AEAE.

I learned this one from Suzi Thompson. I don't know where she got it, but if anyone knows...I play it slow at the end if anyone wants to learn it.
