It's not a jig but a reel, over on fiddleforum there was a question about it from one of my friends there, so curious about the tune I had a go. Just got my octave strung fiddle back yesterday after it being out on loan to someone for quite a while so that's the fiddle I had in my hands when meeting this tune. I liked how it comes out on that, so figured I'd try and record it, as I was planning to do a sample recording of that octave fiddle, already. The start isn't too overwhelming, there's bits in the rest where I really like the sound.

It all started when I noticed the similarity in start of both toons. Wanted to see if I could change from OtC to MoT and couldn't. After the missed change I sped up on MoT and that recording I thought was funny enough to post on here. After a comment from FiddlerFaddler I posted a version of how I'd played it up till then. He mentioned it being a hornpipe, duh, how had I not noticed that myself? Thanks for that insight, Michael. Here it is after Off to California, as hornpipey as I could play it today.

FiddlerFaddler suggested I post a more serious recording of this tune so as to be able to compare with the

The tune is called Aunty Mary had a Canary or Cock 'o the North. I play it fingered as if playing A,EAe but actually had the fiddle tuned G,DGd. Wider spaced strings would have made for some less of the unwanted whistley screetchings. More care with the bowing might have prevented some of the other sounds I don't like a lot. Loads of the noises in it I DO like though. Most of all, I had a blast :D

The other two are called Over the Water to Bessie and Dandy Danny Cronin if I'm not misinformed. Of course there's flubbs and little mess ups, no crashing halt though, hehe.

I really like these tunes, they're not all that hard, unless you make 'm that yourself. Good for working on trying to not get bored/boring while playing tunes. Silly drones for an intro here, didn't feel like really working on making that really work, didn't feel like cutting it off either, just shortend it a LOT ;)

All silliness this one, I actually like playing this tune at a bit more manageable pace. Still, for your entertainment and my own, a recording of the fastest I've ever played it. Not planning to play it as fast again (well, perhaps the speed at the start of the track, not the speed of the last bit though), let alone faster. Pushing for speed, going faster near the end, normally I would try and end at the same pace as I start at of course. There's a couple of more rounds of the tune before this bit, but I didn't want to post that long a track and there were some really bad sqwawks in that that I thought I'd spare youz that bit of it.

I'm pretty sure this is not how I'll end up playing it after a while but this is how it came out just after learning it playing along with Chuck-twelvefrets. Thanks for the tune, it's a really nice one.
