It's not a jig but a reel, over on fiddleforum there was a question about it from one of my friends there, so curious about the tune I had a go. Just got my octave strung fiddle back yesterday after it being out on loan to someone for quite a while so that's the fiddle I had in my hands when meeting this tune. I liked how it comes out on that, so figured I'd try and record it, as I was planning to do a sample recording of that octave fiddle, already. The start isn't too overwhelming, there's bits in the rest where I really like the sound.

I really like the sound you're getting.
Probably I just need to sit with the silly tune & actually decide what I want to do with it, and then go actually go back and actually re-learn it some self-consistent way.
I like the sound of your basje too! :)

That tune was delightful, and it sounded nice on your octave violin. Thanks for posting this.
If you are not already using a viola bow with your basje, let me suggest that you do so. The heavier strings need a wider swatch of bow hair to catch them, and the heavier bow will engage them better. When playing at church one time I had both my violin and my viola, and I accidentally started playing the viola with the wrong bow, and it became apparent to me that something was wrong because I had to use more bow pressure to move the strings, and it still didn't feel right.

Jen, maybe you just have to 'relearn' it by ear. Listen to a lot of different people playing it, have it run through your mind without playing for a while and then sit down with a fiddle and play it, start at a slow-ish pace not thinking of where your fingers need to go but just thinking of the sound of the tune going on in your mind. Try and instead of mess up just miss a note (not easy for us dotty folks) or hold a note longer (might turn into a nice double stop for variety later on).
FiddlerFaddler: haven't tried a viola bow with the octave strings, pretty sure it'd help, but for now I don't have the money to spare for one. Played it with a cello Incredibow, that was brilliant for it. ;D
For now I'll just do the hard work and I'm pretty convinced the workout is good, for my bowing in general. More important then a heavier bow is to have sticky enough rosin, might get some bass rosin at some point and use that for it :)
Glad youz liked the recording :D
