My main playing fiddle was made in 1917 by C. Langer of Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have a couple of others that are in need of desperate restoration: another American fiddle, made in 1895 by John F. Albert of Toledo, Ohio; and a German factory fiddle from the '20s.

I've been playing fiddle since the late '70s. My first love was and still is Southern old-time, primarily: Blue Ridge/Round Peak, Mississippi, North Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ozarks, and early Texas styles. However, over the years I've gotten into the rich diversity of ethnic/regional fiddle traditions found the world over.
Here are just a few of the styles and traditions I enjoy and play:
Regional American Old-Time: Northern (New York State, New England, Pennsylvania); Southern; Mid-Western; and Western.
American Ethnic Traditions: Appalachian; African American (pre-blues & blues); Louisiana French (Cajun & Black Creole); Amerindian (Tohono O'odham); Early Tejano & New Mexican; Norwegian American
Canadian: French (Quebecois & Acadien) and Maritime (Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, & Newfoundland)
British Isles: Irish, English, Scottish and Shetland Isles
Scandinavian: Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian
French Provincial
Eastern European: Jewish Klezmer and Ukrainian
In addition, I'm interested in a whole lot more styles and traditions than I'll ever get around to learning how to play. Basically, I'm talking about every and any vernacular form of social dance music from every and any corner of the world that's played on every and any type of bowed lute!
