Not quite the point Al Pacino was trying to convey, I'm referring to my fingerboard hand fourth finger. I've been working on practicing using it.
When I tried to use it before, I was getting this weird, "wounded cow" tone. That's a female moose, by the way. After all, I am in Maine! It was a combination of being slightly flat , not hitting it square with the tip and probably a too hesitant bow ( not to mention probably tenseness and a hundred other subtle possibilities).
I've been doing scales with that little sucker, and trying it in tunes, in appropriate spots. Naw, it aint't perfect yet ( that's why it's called "practice"), but I've noticed that my face is wincing less, right before I use it ( EXPECTING it to sound bad. Was this a self-fullfilling prophesy?)
This seems to be the finger that will need the most work. It is the weakest finger, and doesn't seem to like working independently. It also appears to not have a very good memory when it comes to hitting the right spot when it was just there a moment ago.
It doesn't help when I see these people with unbelievably fast, dextrous digits. And they're sometimes extemely young. Well, maybe it does help in giving me something to shoot for. They put in the long hours, and there's no substitute.
Perseverance.......Stubbornness..........Focus........Willingness to slog it out and stay the course, with a stiff upper lip............wait a sec., I'm not even English! What I want to do is fall down blubbering and kick and scream "I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! ........................ But I don't think anyone's listening.
