Sat. Aug 25!!!
Oh yes! I finally got there after 4 years!
It was mighty fine, and spent more than I could afford on Do-hickeys, T-shirts, CDs, A dvd on Buckdancing taught by the banjo player of the Stairwell Sisters, who were mindblowing!
Watch for them - they have 2 cds - but live, they are a stellar act !
5 women, GREAT presention and the most amazing oldtimey stuff performed superbly! (Stanly, cooper, carter, Doc Watson -)
5 part vocal harmony (simple!) has GOT to be experienced!
Sent shivers down my back.
I also got me a bluegrass/oldtimey calendar that lists all the major happenings across the country, and all the websites - (2008)
I also had to buy a bow - (yeah, I would have made it out of the house with everything, but tenants coming and going can be distractive!) Oh well, It's a glasser carbon fiber with real horsehair, only I forgot that you have to rosin these new things mightily if you want to make any noise! (brand new -never been broke in) Feels great, and now does make noise- I like it and it will do very well for a back up bow!
Now I have to get a digi camera - my old one is great (98)but won't work on the xp.
Found tons of links for dancing - it does exist in No, Nev - (contra and Square - and it is only 12 blocks from my house - they are just on summer hiatus - but I woud have never found them if one gal hadn't given me the name of the Society - (Personal -not a big search engine access under Dance + Northern Nevada)
Curious about what the future is holding, as all kinds of things and time schedules and work are changing. (I am crossing my fingers as I figure this is a good change and I will makes the most of it)

Now I have 3! a gen-u-wine chinee and An Anton Breton, which was someone's HS student violin - really comfortable! and a pawnshop surprise that @ 80$ turned out to be a highend cremona listed @ 965.00 - plays like butter!! Woo! - So now I have trapped 2 people into playing with me!(used to have 2 or three around) - I'll get there again - and two no name banjos I love, 1 deering goodtime (open back) a beater mandolin, and tons of flutes and whistles. I have gone nuts on clawhammer addiction, and picked up another fiddle at a pawn shop - no lable, but SWEET! Curly maple - think it might be a Scott Cao - - bought it cause I knew it was playable, but MAN! this thing sings and resonates major sweet!!! No lable - beaitifulworkmanship, boxwood fittings.
Favorite Bands/Musicians:
Doc Watson,Incredible String Band,Robin Williamson and his Merry Band,Steeleye Span,Fairport Convention, Highwoods, Walt Koken,Chieftains, heck! anything Irish and Scottish or Old Timey - AND Old English /french German/ medi/renn dances and ballads!) just too many!

That's almost an overwhelming question! (LOL!)
Music's in my blood - in fact it is my blood! AS is writing (both words and music - so anything from acapella solo to vocal harmony - to choir,chorale writing or conducting - to fiddle and a few other instruments - but fiddle is my main joy - written, or even more by ear! Just pick it up and go! (Also teaching meself clawhammer banjo -( which, I still play like a fiddler...)
Love especially irish, scottish, mountain, folk, old english - cannot hear a melody without instantly going harmony - (probably the welsh in me)
Sometime I'll get to a real bio.
Everyone who thought they wanted music/school, had to learn to play the Flutaphone - and I was terrified! - because I knew that if I didn't pass, I had no recourse - the adults were in charge, and I couldn't wait years! I HAD to have music!) Suffice to say when I was offered flute or clarinet as a kid, I was affronted.
Had to be violin.
When I got school lessons, (2nd grade)
I don't remember learning to read music - and aside from glancing at the lessons, (in my Belwin string books) I would go home, put on Strauss, Souza, Vivaldi, Mozart & Teleman, etc and close my eyes and play.
(my dad used to sit in the back patio after work, with ice tea - and there he taught me, and played records, of every musical style there was. He also taught me ship navigation and astronomy. He started when I was about 4)

These days - fiddle-wise. I have found myself into more of the folk oriented - irish, scottish, celtic, sea chanties, old time! Bluegrass is okay, but I have an avid leaning toward modal and storytelling! So I often write, and there is a story to be illustrated with it. What can I say, but that my writing mentor is Hans Christian Anderson - and still is...
So if I can mix mythology, storytelling, and music together, (or make up a story, imagery to play too, it works! (course, some music for pure pleasure simply as music is fine too!)
I write a lot of choral stuff, and honestly just about anything easily inspires stories or tunes.
It took me 53 years to admit I was a romantic - (since I am not a big fan of the ~romantic~ period in music -) just a bit gushy drama -angst for my taste ,
But I am intrigued by the composers themselves! (and any history of tmusic, writers, dance, bards - etc. -and participants, going back to the creation of earth -
and before ! LOL!
My tastes tend more toward European - not so much the "western" aspect!!! (Smiley - embarrassed and chagrin, at admitting that!!!! Not to much a southwestern/western cowboy/indian person) - Give me the mountains, forests and streams and medieval catacombs, Renaissance, and classical and Baroque - and of course the irish picts and what not - faeries, trolls, Norse, you name it!

But once I looked up the definition fully of a romantic, I just had to laugh!! But don't confuse me with debussy or chopin, or that crew - i like grieg though!
