Oh Heck -
OK - got my PC soundcard tweaked (directed by a nicegeek/hacker) but that did the trick, it seems - So I downloaded the wonder program, spoken highly of... (especially when you have no $$ for anything at the moment) Dug out some kind of mic (crappy_ and crappy headphones -)
Not a lot of time to play lately - got some banjo rec-down, currently sounding like I am over a mountain on mars - but hey -
Then discovered and played the built in clic track LOL! Had a blast with THAT! (haven't used a metronone in years)My rhythm's fine - but there is something about those manufactured clic tracks that literally sets me off laughing -
Well, unfortunately, I decided to double track - imported a midi to Mp3 (which played fine, plus screwed around with the change tempo thing - (yes, I remembered to highlight the track - so all my effects to apply were showing)
Played a bit over that, (nice to know that the stuff I arrg/compose for other projects are very playable on fiddle) and went to record over the mp3 track -
Well, no go there - I mean the trac was there, I had a new track for audio-in microphone (fiddlepart)- gain/vol set -
Sure it recorded, but nothing I did got the original rhythm/ back up track to play at the same time - (like overdubing - with earphones, without earphones - it played - just not together - and it's not an align track thing - so how the *** are you supposed to lay another track down? When you have no cues?
Argh - give me analog -
I am sure it's something simple, but I am not at the moment going to wade through manuals, (online) - I got so frustrated, that I pulled out a canister, told a tenant to make me a pot of tea from it - (didn't look) He asked me are you sure? I said use almost a half cup - and took off to my other house to do something -
Unfortunately, my rice canister is exactly the same as my tea canister - so I had a great pot of brewed rice water when I got back - (yes, it's known here I have a sense of humor --)
I had to laugh - made reg tea. and cooked the rice - which MAN! Cooked fast and fluffy!! - maybe running boiling water over it for 10 minutes does something -
Tenant was in stitches - No harm done there - but am not pleased with why I can't hear track that was down, while recording over it.
Got a clue anyone? Could do this with analog just fine -

TADAH! Went, in an ornery mood, to some forum - guy was having the same problem - (why don't they TELL you this things in the online manual?)
Prob solved - go to edit, go to preferences at the bottom,
clic on, and under the I/O tab - (windows) make sure you check the box that says "play other tracks while recording"
Well, OK - but it would have been nice to know - to bad there isn't a popdown checklist - instead of intuit -
So I imported 2 sides of a duet I made for a student - BOTH played - (in playmode - perfectly synched)
I then added a new trac, mic - and recorded a real stupid ditzy rap with nonsense words to it - (rhythmic though) And could hear the above duet fine. I played all three back, and voila! all three played!
Let this be a lesson on how intuitive this digi program isn't, when you are used to analog recording - But Heck! It works!
(It would be nice to have simple tutorials though - )
