I have been hosting a weekly oldtime and bluegrass (although we rarely play much bluegrass these days) jam session now for almost two years at a local cafe here in Northern NSW Australia and it has grown into one of my favourite things that I do all week.
Not only has leading a session playing fiddle done loads for my playing and led me to learn heaps more tunes, it has also become a meeting place for local and touring musicians and also introduces lots of newcomers to bluegrass/oldtime/celtic which is essential to fostering a community of traditional music in our area.
The Cafe management loves it, the punters love it, the musicians love it ,and I love it -its a win, win, win, win situation!
