I'm a former professional musician trying to learn the violin. I did play violin for maybe a few dozen hours many years ago. So I bought a cheap 5 string violin on Amazon. It sounds surprisingly good for the price. Was kind of proud of myself being able to tune it only by ear within a half step. I got the 5 string because I really like the sound of a viola and figured why not get the best of both worlds. But I thing I screwed myself as a beginner because it seems like the radius and width is exactly the same as a four string, making it really hard to bow with precision. After an hour I'm able to do Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and Bach's Minuet in G. But I struggle to keep the bow on one string at a time. It seems a lot harder than I remember. Is it my imagination? Also the C string is absurdly loose. Thinking I need a bigger gauge.
