Since moving to Anchorage Alaska, I've been getting a bit down in the search for fellow old-time musicians who I could jam with. That being said, today was a great experience as I stopped in at a local music store and began giving my usual "old-time fiddle role call" which consists of playing an old time tune on the fiddle and seeing if anyone noticed. Sure enough, this time, someone did. It was great. I found out about two local jam sessions going on and I hope to try them out next week.
One was at Guido's Pizza in Anchorage on Thursday from 8pm to whenever. Its a family environment.
The second was Wednesday at McGinley's Bar from 8pm to whenever.
Not sure which would be the best so I shall try them both and see.
The woman I met was Rose Fitch who worked at "The Music Man" music store off of Old Seward rd.
To get you all caught up on who I am, I am attaching a few videos below. I would like to personally meet any Fiddle Hangout folks who play Old-time in Anchorage or elsewhere in Alaska if possible. Just send me a message.
