That's the name of the new group I'm involved with. We're so new we're still in the process of establishing a set list that could sustain a 2-hour gig.
Why Milwaukee Road? Glad you asked. We are fundamentally an Old Time/Irish group. But we'll play anything that's interesting to us (and hopefully to our listeners). So after we do Nine Days In Bethel or Hangman's Reel, we could follow that up with a swingy kind of tune from They Might Be Giants. Or a couple songs I've written that I never get to play anywhere else. But back to the name Milwaukee Road.
There are a number of reasons behind why I chose the name:
1.The Milwaukee Road was an actual railroad that ran to the Pacific Northwest before derailing (shall we say) in the 1970s.
2. I have a life-long fascination with railroads.
3. I almost lost a finger on my right hand due to that fascination with railroads (long story).
4. I want to pay homage to Larry Penn. Larry was a truck driver, railroader, labor organizer, singer/songwriter. He's maybe best known for his song I'm A Little Cookie, about kids born with Downs Syndrome. Here's my own favorite of his songs < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhj0dpy4N7s >
