Why I do my job...

Posted by KCFiddles on Wednesday, March 25, 2015

like this

Excerpt from an email today from a former Nashville performer who is trying out one of my better fiddles:

"Last night I was up til the wee hours of the night playing the fiddle so I better go ahead and commit to buying it.  I don't think at this point I can live without it...."

It's very satisfying and fulfilling to get that sort of response, especially when the customer has a very good basis for comparison, and had been looking for a good fiddle off and on for years.

That's one of the bigger reasons I do what I do.

Other reasons:

I love music and working with musicians.

I love to try to improve and learn every day, and to seek mastery. There's always challenge here, always more to learn.

I like to work with my hands, and see / hear the results of my efforts.

Fiddles are the sound I carry in my head.

ADAGE : Love your occupation and you'll never have to work a day in your life.....I can truly say I was very fortunate in my chosen career.

Very cool...sounds like she's come away convinced! She even said some good things about the "Columbia" model prototype as well. Coming from a consumate professional, her approval carries alot of weight. I'm intrigued by luthery, I've read alot about it, it seems interesting and I LOVE the smell and look of wood, the feel the grain....and folks who can take wood and turn them into things that sound and look beautiful...it borders on almost "Mysticism" in my book.

Customer was back in to get a bridge pickup put on. She's totally in love. Says the fiddle has the sound that everyone she knows in and out of Nashville is looking for. Gonna write me a nice testimonial.
