Well, as I expected I sound pretty bad! I have made progress, tho'. I can do the D scale pretty reliably, at least, when I'm following along with a recording. I tried D dorian & was pretty wretched at it, darn it. Also I've overworked out my left arm. My inside left elbow is pretty sore. I guess I can't do scales for an hour at a time!
I looked up some warm up and stretching routine for fiddlers on the youtube. I used the ones from the lady at red desert violin today and it worked really well. I also switched to holding the fiddle more in the crook of my arm rather than my shoulder. That along with the stretching seemed to make a big difference.
I'm pleased to say, as well, that I figured out Rayna Gellert's version of Ida Red. She makes it pretty easy by play it 3 times progressively slower & simpler. Can't do it with any cool drones yet, alas.

Well I figured it out in the wrong key. As I discovered when trying to play along with Miss Gellert's video. But NOW I've got it sorted, swearsies!

thanks bd for your comment about my fiddle-online.com -- I fixed it and put the live link in. If you end up trying the technique videos there, work with the "Drumming" exercise to help avoid straining your left arm.

Hi bd -- the "Drumming" video is there now on fiddle-online.com -- click "Technique" at top to get there. 4 more videos will be added in the next day or so as well.
