Well, I dont know that after 4 months that I am any better than I was at 3 months. I did purchase a new fiddle though. Got it a goodwill, woohoo. It is a 1986 Strad copy made in Germany. I wanted a second fiddle to learn how to repair. I am so afraid to change the strings on my current fiddle for fear that I will not get them back on right and then be without an instrument. The Strad is in very good shape, just needs some new strings, so I order some Helicore's last night for it. I have been working very hard trying to get my fingers to stay in the right spot, I have certainly improved in that aspect. I do have a major crisis coming up. My wife has taken a full time job now and that means I have to be home everyday right after work to get the kids. This means I will not be able to meet up with my instructor anymore, unless I can find someone to get my kids off the bus. : ( My instructor has a small window that he can meet me with and none of those times are in the evening. ahhh I sure hope I dont have to fly solo.

Don't give up. I'm sure you've made progress. It's hard to hear your own progress at time.
How exciting to get another fiddle. I did the same thing, found one real cheap that I wanted to mess around with on set-up and then decided I liked the sound and feel of it better than my current one so I took it to a professional.
Don't ya love Goodwill.

Congrats on the new fiddle! Geez, pretty soon you'll be setting soundposts and everything! *giggle*
Sorry to hear about your scheduling problem. There might be a temporary solution though, if you have a webcam and your teacher does also . . . And if your teacher isn't a techie, there are fiddle teachers on the web giving lessons that way, so if you absolutely can't make other arrangements, there IS that option.

If he is local to you, maybe if you offer him a bit of extra money for gas and time, he'd be willing to come to you for the lesson. Just a thought.

Had a simular thing happen to me. I just used the money I would have spent on lessons and bought all kinds of stuff to encourage me to play. Teaching cd's to play along with and things like that. It does help that my husband plays guitar so we pick regular. Haven't started my lessons back with the teacher yet, but I am still learning.

I picked up my first fiddle at 57....I'm older than the fiddle! The key is not giving up, even if all you do is run through scales, it's better that sitting waiting for a teacher to show up. My first teacher assumed that since I played guitar for over 40 yrs the fiddle was a piece of cake. We played "Twinkle, Twinkle little star" for 6 weeks - every Thursday night I'd sit and play that cursed song over and over again for 30 minutes. One day the music store owner burst through the door and screamed "Can't you play anything else?!!!!!" By that time I'd taught myself "Danny boy" and "Somewhere over the rainbow" by just sawing. I started one, then went into the other and watched my teacher melt....you will succeed!
