I've gotten into tuning drums... not with a drum tuner, but just by feel and sound. It seems to be important to get the top head and the bottom head resonating at the same pitch. (later edit- it doesn't HAVE to be the same... the bottom resonant head can be higher)
It's great exercise. I've never been one for going to gyms and stuff... but playing drums for an hour or so makes me feel so exhilarated afterwards, because the blood really seems to get pumping.
