Cello is complete.

like this

Well...it hasn't been a real good week, but here is the cello, playable, and looking pretty.

There are still some "issues". The soundpost is a tad too short, so I will have to make a new one, and fit it tomorrow night...I hope. The bridge is a tad too short, too, so I will have to fit a new one. Annnd..the fingerboard has an area just below the nut that is a little too high, so I will have to remove the nut, re-dress the north end of the board, and reassemble. (sigh...)

And the show is this weekend. :-)

I am taking Friday off, so maybe I can get it all together.

Good luck. You're on the last length.

It looks beautiful!

You did well. GOod luck at the show. I could never build an instrument under that kind of pressure. I applaud you.

Thanks. Yes, the pressure has been fairly fierce, this time. I think I will try to avoid that in the future. Don't much like it. :-)

I think I can get it all together by tomorrow evening, have a cellist friend play it, briefly to check for balance and focus, and to locate and deal with any "wolf-tone" issues.

After the show, I think I will take a break from Lutherie, and work in the garden... :-)

Thanks! the show went well. I think I may have sold another five-string fiddle. I will know for sure when the money arrives. :-)

The lady e-mailed confirmation this evening. I will deliver the fiddle tomorrow evening, so that is one sale, even if not the one I hoped for. (I hoped to sell a cello).

A couple of cellists came and test-drove the cellos, and were very pleased, so that was nice, too. And people were stunned to see the guitar my son's student (13-year-old boy) built, and adults are beginning to line up wanting to be tutored through the building of their own hand-made, high-quality guitar. :-)

So...all-in-all a very good weekend. I will post pictures later.

Some of us would rather be tutored through building our own hand-made, high-quality violin.

Couldn't make the show, but I'm glad it went well. I'll have to keep my eyes open for another opportunity to bother you.

The lady came through with the money today, and she and I are both delighted.

There are lots of workshops, etc., for learning to build a fiddle. Where do you live, Mr. Wildman? I have coached others through their first one(s). Results vary, of course. :-)

I have completed 22 of them now, and have three or four more on the bench, and I am still trying to get a handle on it.

I live in Scappoose and work in St. John's. I'm just about ready to start getting together some tools and such to start, but it could still be a few months before I actually begin building. I don't want to be an imposition, but if you don't mind, I might just pick your brain about a few things when I have questions.

Feel free. You will not be an imposition, and you are only an hour from my house. I would definitely have some ideas about the best way to begin, but I will help any way I can. BTW, there is a workshop in Claremont Calif. every year that (if you care to go) you would find tremendously helpful. Michael Darnton is the main teacher.
