Some progress on the cello, this evening.

Posted by Chet Bishop on Friday, February 8, 2013

I shaped the upper and lower sides of the four corner blocks this evening, and installed the upper ribs. It was awfully cold out in the shop where I was working, so the glue was gelling rapidly. I hope it holds. I should have heated the wood with my heat-gun, but I wasn't sure where it was, and didn't feel like hunting for it, so I just worked fast. We'll see what happens.

I'll be attending a barge-launch tomorrow morning, but should be able to install the lower blocks tomorrow afternoon. Then I'll see about joining the top plates, maybe. Not sure how much energy I will have when I get home.

I also carved some more on the pegbox. the lower end is full depth, and about halfway up, it tapers up toward the surface. I still need to dig out the area under the D-peg deeper. Maybe that will be what I work on tomorrow afternoon.

One day at a time-- one task at a time. at some point it starts looking like a cello, and all the work becomes a joy. Getting the ribs glued in place is one of my least favorite jobs--right along with center seams.

"More practice, Grasshopper!"
