Man, I had a great Black Friday! Of course, that means I didn't go anywhere or do any shopping. My wife and kids were all busy with errands and visiting friends, so I got to play fiddle more or less all day long. Spent some time wood-shedding on a few recently learned tunes (Gilsaw, Sally Will You Marry Me, Hog-eyed Man), learned a new tune (Sweet Ellen), and just ran through a whole bunch of others. I've been using a practice journal lately, so I wrote down the tunes I played. Here's my Black Friday:
Key of D (ADAE)
Gilsaw
Big Tennessee
Sam & Elzie
Moses Hoe the Corn
Johnny Don't Get Drunk
Rose in the Mountain
Sweet Ellen
Key of G (GDAE)
Sally Will You Marry Me
Kennesaw Mountain
Magpie
Susan's Gone
Old Granny Blair
Liza Jane
Whiteface
Key of G (GDGD - I played a lot of cross A tunes in cross G tonight)
Paddy on the Turnpike
Hog-eyed Man
Ways of the World
Geese Honking
Big Sweet Taters in Sandy Land
Double File
Breaking in the String
Road to Maysville
Brushy Fork of John's Creek
Hell Up Coal Holler
Little Billie Wilson
Big Hoedown
Get Up in the Cool
Mississippi Sawyer
Old Ragged Coat
Irish Polka
Jenny Get Around
Doney
Road to Malvern
Buffalo Gals
Gunboat
Crow Little Rooster
Breakin' Up Christmas
The Creek's All Muddy and the Pond's All Dry
Pretty Betty Martin
Hunting the Buffalo
Candy Girl
Snakehunt (L'ville)
Little Rabbit
Big Eyed Rabbit
Grub Springs
Flippin' Jenny
Trouble on my Mind
On top of that, I had some nice Fort George Brewery Vortex IPA to sip on while I was practicing tonight and the Paul Smith "Devil Eat the Groundhog" CD I ordered a couple week's ago came in today. Good day! Give thanks! Hope your Thanksgiving is filled with blessings, too!

Whoa, and you consider yourself a novice with all those tunes? I must have just hatched out of my fiddle-egg, then.
Black Friday is for the birds.

Yeah, I probably should update my FHO Experience Level. I set up my FHO account when I started playing fiddle in 2007 and haven't changed it since. That puts me 5 years into my fiddle journey. I probably know about about 4 dozen tunes across 4 tunings (all old time) now, but I still feel like a beginner. But not a novice beginner anymore.
Cheers, Scott

Whew. Tunings frighten me, my friend, unless if they're on the banjo. I'm always afraid when I wind that E string back up it'll pop... crappy strings have done it to me before! I'm paranoid.
You sound purty good to me. Ha ha! :) God bless
