Well, yesterday marked 3 years of fiddling for me. So I can now say I'm starting my fourth year. I think I've made some good progress, especially since I haven't had a regular teacher for the past 2 years. It does take commitment during the day to day needs of life as a husband, father and a full time job. I am happy that I spend very little time watching TV anymore. Most of my time in the evenings are spent with the kids, then when they go to sleep is when I practice. I do try to get a full hour in each day. I then usually surf the web, checking out this site, Youtube and some instructional videos I have. I do sub in some time on my little mandolin which I like to hack around on. I love the sound and I love the pinky strength it has helped me build.
I spoke with Woodwiz yesterday and hope to treat myself to a fiddle upgrade at Fiddle Hell. I've been playing my Bluestem fiddle from Michael for the whole time and it has been a great foundation for me. I couldn't have hoped for a better starter fiddle to take me through the newbie years. I plan on keeping it for cross tuning and road trips. Maybe someday I'll pass it down to one of my kids if they want to continue learning fiddle. I'm excited about my next fiddle. I hope it will speak to me next week. I know Michael will have the best to choose from.
Which takes me to the Hangout. It has also been 3 years from the very beginning that I have been cruising this site. I don't know if my interest would have held through the years if it wasn't for all the insight, help , encouragement, inspiration, and fun I've had posting with all of you. You folks have really been great and I hope this site continues forever. Thank you to all of you!
