My Fiddle Project

Posted by Jerry Byers on Tuesday, July 10, 2007

I found a great vintage fiddle on eB@y and decided to be the next custodian of it. My new 'old' fiddle is en route to the shop for some repairs. The fiddle was restored in 1963 and appears to be in good shape. My initial assessment of the fiddle shows two areas of needed repair. The top and ribs show a very slight separation near the upper bout, treble side. And, it appears the tail block is split. I'm sending it off to Steve at Gianna Violins. I'll keep you posted on the repairs.

Well, it sure is a pretty instrument - and looks to be very well made.

I'm guessing an American maker - given the highly flamed Maple on the scroll and sides?

And I really like the one-piece back for fiddles.  No rational reason, I just like it....

Bet it's going to sound great, once it's put back in playing condition.
