Intonation Blues

like this

So I finally got over my tendonitis to the point where I can play when and how long I want to (with only a very occasional reminder twinge if I grossly overdo!)

And now? This end of the drought mildew season we're having in eastern PA, with showers almost every dang day has my sinuses so compacted that NOTHING sounds right! I have to play with the dang mic tuner on just to ensure I'm playing the right dang note.

I am so frustrated right now that I'm ready to scream my bloody head off.

Oh well, if I can't play the right note anyway, time to practice my trick fiddling. Again.

I'll see if I can get the vidcam to show me playing while I'm standing on my head . . .

*** CRASH!!!! ***

Oops. No more vidcam.

Crash? Was there brain damage?

Beej, I can totally empathize with the sinusitis problems...NOTHING ever sounds right, even if it IS right. Kinda sounds like I'm playing underwater. But hey, at least you're over the tendinitis. So you have THAT going for you!

Well, Lawrence, there is a way to deal with it that I've used over the years. Put some water on the stove and throw some oregano, thyme and, if you have it, eucalyptus in the water. Put a top on, bring it to a boil and let it simmer for a couple minutes. Then tilt the top and breathe the steam up your nose (don't get TOO close or you'll burn yourself.) Do this a few times, and have a box of tissues handy. Repeat this proces 3 or 4 times for a day or two and it usually clears things out. I have shaken the sinus headache I had earlier. But things still don't sound right. Hopefully by tomorrow they will.

Brain Damage? What's that?

Thank you beej, I'll keep that recipe in mind next time I get clogged up. Would it work if I drank it? Like with V-8 juice and vodka? I'm willing to volunteer...anything for medical science, ya know!

BJ, up untl a couple of years ago, I had exactly the same problem. Couldn't breath except through my mouth, couldn't sleep etc. Dr. prescribed generic equivalent of Flonase, and it worked great. Still does. Don't like taking drugs, but non-drug alternatives (Neti Pot, etc.) just didn't work well.

fishinmusician, I'll stick with my oregano steam, which does the job admirably, though it takes a day or two.

Lawrence, though I'm sure drinking it would do something for part of you, it wouldn't do it for the part you're aiming for . . .

Yes maam... but if I drank enough of it I wouldn't care...and I wouldn't have to worry about burning my delicate little schnozzola. (I WILL store it away for future reference. Hopefully, I won't need it for a while).

Not to imply I have a big nose, but if it DID get burned, I would have burns over half my body.... :-p

I thought the soup you served me the other day tasted like it had some oregano, thyme, eucalyptus and something else...hmmmmm...oh...that's it.

When your nose is runny and you're feelin' funny/ You may think it's honey but it's not.

Beej, just spent the last week with clogged ears...nothing serious, just enough to throw off the sound a little bit, from time to time. No doubt punishment from the Fiddle Gods for mocking you and others on your blog.
...just glad you didn't post anything about morning sickness...

HAH! Too late for that! How about SeaSickness?

Now that's rough...been on some very rough water with friends and family where that occurred...not a pretty sight. Once one person gets it, it spreads like a plague, too. I've been spared that indignity thus far, but only by the grace of the Fiddle Gods. (I'll have to offer up a fiddle tune here shortly as a supplication for Their continued protection). Fisher's Hornpipe? Drunken Sailor?
