I really like Art Stamper's playing and tone. He's a master... The digital library of Appalachia has a bunch of recordings of him playing at , (I think) Berea college. I downloaded about ten yesterday and they're great...
Imean to get over to that site and buy a CD from there- would you happen to have an opinion about which of his CDs is most "oldtimey" as opposed to "bluegrassy"... I much prefer the old time style.
thanks for reminding us about him.
Steve

Hey Steve!
Thank you for commenting. I would recommend Good bye Girls I'm Going to Boston. All old time tunes, lots of cross key and liner notes tell tunings. I'm out the door to a jam catch you later. Terry

I have "Goodbye Girls I'm Going to Boston" and recommend it highly. Great stuff! Just yesterday I ordered the Hiram Stamper DVD available from the Field Recorder's Collective. Can't wait to watch that!
Cheers, Scott

Hey Scott,
I used to go visit Hiram Stamper Sr. when I was first learning to play. He has a beautiful lick that I havn't heard anyone duplicate so If you can learn from that video you will have something. He tells some great stories too. Hiram learned tunes from my great grandfather Fiddler Shade Slone a Civil War Vet. Ky Fiddler Terry
