Pain and Playing

Posted by bj on Thursday, May 3, 2012

I've had wicked pain for a long time when trying to play. For that reason I haven't been playing very much, though I still play every day.

I'm now working with a shiatsu master and it's slowly but surely making a difference. Things that were really awful are now starting to clear up. It's a tedious process, but I can already feel improvements.

This morning was the first morning in months that I didn't wake up with golfer's elbow pain.

It'll probably be awhile before I'm back to normal, but I finally feel like there's hope. And I have a few weeks to work on things before the first festival of the season at Black Creek.

I plan to be back up to speed by then.

I look forward to seeing y'all up there!

Same wishes from here bj....

It'll be rough to dial-back on the summer festival jamming, but take your time and get it right. You've got lots of years left.

Hey, BJ! Glad you're improving. Pain sucks.

I know enough not to reinjure it, no way will I let that happen again! It's the computer work that causes it,, which is why I'm buying Dragon Naturally Speaking. And trying to limit my time on mouse and keyboard. Which is difficult since it's half my living.

Glad your on the mend BJ. I didn't know anything about joint pain 10 years ago. Now, this hurts...that hurts. I get outta bed in the morning, stretch, and it sounds like someone's making popcorn :)

Injured my right sholder a couple weeks ago yanking dead fronds off'a yucca plants while cleaning em out. Pulled a muscle or cartilage I rekon. Anyway tha older we get tha easier it is to injury ourselves and tha longer it takes to heal. It stills hurts to fiddle over 3 or 4 mins. at a time.

Anyway, yes, take care and give time fer complete healing before resuming normal activity. We been missing yer contributions to tha FHO.
You and Jane are certainly "spice fer tha site".

Oz, you're right, it does take longer to heal, unless we're really being careful with our diet and exercise (neither of which are much fun!)

I hope you're coming around from your injury. If you have a shiatsu massage person nearby, you might wanna give it a try. These treatments made a believer of me!

Sorry to hear about the aches and pains. I've been missing you on the Hangout. Still hoping to share some tunes in person one of these days! Hope you've got a handle on it - two ergonomic nightmares - computer and fiddle! Add stress, and it's even worse.

We'll do it, Judy. Hopefully Clifftop this summer!

Seems like there's always "something" aching or hurting me every day. The real bother for me
is if my left hand gets stiff and slow...(gotta remember to quit hittin' it with those darn hammers).

Best of luck to you bj, pain can be a real hindrance to playing.

For some reason it seems like being on the computer too long aggravates everything.

Yes, Lawrence, being on the computer too long DOES aggravate everything!

Though I think "those darn hammers" could, quite possibly, be worse, at least in the short term!

Jane Gilday, aka janepaints on the hangout here, is a very talented artist who painted this portrait of me. She's my oldest friend and the person who has mentored me the most musically. You can see more of her work here:
