Musical Phrases

like this

I've been thinking a lot about this as I practice for the upcoming season:

A musical defined by Wikipedia... is a unit of musical meter that has a musical sense of its own.....A phrase is not pitches only but also has a rhythmic dimension.....Phrase rhythm is the very lifeblood of music and capable of infinite variety. YAH BABY! Bring it to life and let it speak!

It's lots of fun playing at a fair. I'm a wandering minstrel and often have a 20-30 min show. Other entertainment includes Story tellers, musicians, fire eaters, a cast of actors...lots of venders too with cool crafts to sell. :)

So, are you playing Renaisance music? I just ordered the Mel Bay Cantego book. Nice costume.

I play a mix of Renaissance, Old Time American, Klezmer and Celtic. I like the minor and modal keys...
I got the Mel-BAy book and it is quite good. I posted a video if you want to see me in action....Do you attend or play at any faires ?

It's all just a series of questions and answers, from a little wooden box with four strings.

yes indeed... and it's the tone of the voice coming out of that box which moves me...just like a human voice...with a full range of expression :)

Thanks for the compliment...There is a King Richards Fair in western MA that runs all season. They have jousting and all kinds of stuff. The outfit I'm with is much smaller ...
