Cool software

Posted by fiddlefire on Monday, January 23, 2012

This is cool. Its not new of course. I have been a hangout member for 3 years now and not until a month ago that I started started paying more attention. Hey. I was buisy-O.K. Oh it happens. But any way, I was turned on to this software by a student of mine. She did not own it but had heard of it at a mandolin seminar. She said, I think that it is called the slow downer. The next night, I searched it out  and found it to be called the amazing slow downer. If you are a fiddle player, mandolin player , so on and so fourth and you are trying to learn a fast break, melody line, what ever, you really need to check this out. I do not have any ties to them at all or to benefit by this by putting money in my pocket, It is such a great tool to slow down riff's with out altering the pitch of what you are learning to play. Search it out and you can down load a free version of it to see if it fits your needs. Its a great tool. You can slow down mp-3 files, cd recordings so on and so fourth.  I think, as a teacher and a working musician, its a good bang for the buck. $50.00 for the software and $10.00 for a back up disc that you can share with your friends. Give it a free trial and I think that you may be impressed. Fiddle one ya'all

I've been using "Transcribe!" by Seventh String, but both programs work well and are really handy for learning tunes. I especially like the ability to adjust the tuning of old recordings, and to loop sections as short as a couple of notes if that's what's needed to be able to hear them clearly. The spectrum display is also really handy for figuring out notes on muddy recordings.

Audacity and "Transcribe!" get used a lot at my house...

I heard of audacity but not transcribe. Do they have free trials on any of them? I wouldnt mind checking them out. For $50 bucks, the amazing slow downer was a good bang for the buck ,I think. In my spare time I will check them out. That is when I have spare time-LOL. Thanks for the info!

Audacity is a free recording program with lots of features. I use it to record practice. I can hear myself instantly, and even better, erase instantly. Very convenient. I also use it for editing sound samples recorded on my Zoom recorder.

Transcribe! has free trial, but it's not all that different from ASD. I think Transcribe! may have a few more features, but I haven't compared versions in a long time. What I have works perfectly for me. If you try it, it's from Seventh String Software.
