I've been in Tucson for about a month and have attended many fun jams. Banjobrad does a great job leading the Tucson Old TIme Music Circle, and there are some fine players at the Auld Dubliner Irish sessions. The Tucson Friends of Traditional Music have slo/fast jams at the RIncon Market and a big Open Band that plays for contra dances monthly. All the local music folks have been very welcoming - it's amazing that we can travel so far, sit down with a bunch of strangers and soon find ourselves right in the swing of things. We are so fortunate to have this wonderful hobby (or, 'lifestyle'!)
