I decided I'd put some footage of it on youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo3NPot9zmw&list=UU0afxNxy580YADlCBYLFMvQ&index=1&feature=plcp
It's the first thing like this I've ever built. I'm pretty surprised by the sound and the volume. It's really better than I could have expected. It's made of birch plywood from Michael's Art store and I salvaged the neck, tuners, tail piece and neck block off a smashed fiddle a friend donated to me.
I'm not totally sure how long it took me, not really that long though. It was spread out over a couple of months just a few hours here and there. It came together pretty fast.
I'm taking a near month long trip down the Grand Canyon in January. This was built to take on that trip. Let's hope it holds up.

Thanks, yeah, I'm excited to see how it works out. I just need to figure out what I'm going to do for a case.

You can build your own case for it. Create a wooden box the proper size, with room for the interior padding. Then you can wrap your fiddle in plastic and use that aerosol foam insulation to create the suspension padding inside. Spray a bit in first, let it set, then put the fiddle in and spray around it. You can carve it to fit properly, then line with flannel or velvet.
