Put the time in. Lots of it. That's the whole secret. :-)

Congradulations. It should have come with a warning label, though. "WARNING! This instrument will take over your life!" Welcome to the club.

Hi...looks like a huge crack on the bass side, top of your fiddle that runs from the F hole down to the lower bout. You might want to take your fiddle to an experienced strings luthier in your area...contact a Violin Shop and see if that crack has been glued and stabilized so you'll have that nice old fiddle for a long time. They do need care and maintenance to be able to last along time. Enjoy the fiddle and learning to play. It will open your life up to so many new and exciting people and places...plus just enjoy the aspect of making music.
Stay tuned. Diane in SoCal
