I'm looking for jazz violinists who would like to play some new music. I have original tunes as well as ensemble scores. I'm currently working on a series of scores for 5-horn jazz ensemble. These scores have a flexible instrumentation. Almost any combination of woodwinds, saxes, and brass can be used for a horn section. The rhythm section is also flexible. Jazz violin can be used with these scores.
Please contact me and let's see if we can find some of my music that's a good match for you.

Not many (any?) that I know of- but there may be some lurking.
I think the Fiddle (and Alternative Strings) Forum would be a better bet!!!

That's okay! Just putting it out there. Never know what might come back. :)) Regardless, this is a great forum.

I love jazz violin, and I try to play by myself, along with recorded music. But, I'm very new to the instrument, a couple years. So, there is no way I can call myself a jazz violinist. And, maybe what I like can't really be called jazz...more like gypsy jazz, and big band, and some improv of the American songbook, that kind of stuff. It will be a long time before I can do that with others, or understand how to talk about it all like I hear real musicians doing. I like your presence on FHO, though. I would like to see more variety cropping up here.

Bart, That's the spirit! I've found that being a musician we learn to follow our intuition for finding our directions in music. Gypsy jazz especially interests me as being a great match for the fiddle. Keep at it.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but I'm using a number of online music sites as a way to help get my music out there and be heard. Since I'm a big fan of the fiddle and I love to explore various fiddle styles in my writing, Fiddle Hangout has been a great site for me. I also use Facebook, Reverbnation, Sound Cloud, Official.fm, My Space, Berklee Music, and the American Music Center. I've found some great connections with more contemporary or jazz-oriented musicians & composers on those other sites. One of the next things on my list is to have some things on Youtube. A jazz pianist & composer buddy in Baltimore is currently working on piano arrangements for 4 of my originals. Then, we'll made videos of them with his jazz group and put them on Youtube. When he does, I'll have links to them on my FHO page and the other sites that I'm using. These 4 tunes can sound really nice on violin. I'm looking forward to hearing what George does with them. :))
