I have been so giddish the past week over my purchase of Gliga Genial fiddle off of craigslist. I cant believe how well this cheap fiddle sounds. The past 3 years I have had two not so good cheap fiddles and a Palermo copy that cost me $400 and none of them have come close to sounding like my cheapest purchase the Gliga made Genial. I feel like it has instantly taken my playing to another level. It has that beautiful echo (I dont know the proper term) that makes me sound so much better. My double stops ring so much better, I feel like I am a much better play just because of the sounds this fiddle is putting out. I have to wonder how much more I would have progressed it I had a decent fiddle to start with. I cant help but wonder how many others who start out with the crappy fiddles like I started out with, would have been so much better off having someone with a decent ear go with them on their first purchase. It took my ear three years to figure out what sounds good and what sounds like a noise coming out of a piece hollow wood. I know it is still a cheap fiddle and they are many more better sounding ones out there, but for now this has made practicing and playing so much fun again!

some times its not the fiddle but the fiddler to blame for the bad fiddleing. then with poorly made cheap fiddles you get what you payed for most the time. i,ve never had a real cheap fiddle but some that may have come closes.there all ways one or to that sound better then others. i would say you found one of the good ones keep fiddlen

Rob, when I was a kid, I got lent a cheap guitar where the strings were probably a 1/2 inch off the fretboard. Alot of learners guitars were like that and it sifted the wheat from the chaff. The ones who stuck it out to get to the nice instruments were those that earned it. Congrats. You earned this one!

That is awesome! Having a fiddle that sounds good make such a big difference. My favorite fiddle is one that I bought off of ebay for $400. It was a huge risk when I bought it, but I am sure glad I did! It is the fiddle that I play with all of the time. I have yet to find another fiddle that matches up to it. Good luck with everything!

Good for you Rob. When you know you got a great deal, it just makes playing easier, sweeter, and way more satisfying. IMHO
CONGRATULATIONS!

I'm SO GLAD you found your fiddle soulmate! I've been pretty lucky that way, but my first fiddle was pretty freaking awful, and I remember how it killed both my fingers and ears playing it. Steve is right. You EARNED this one.

I'm happy for you Rob! The fiddle really makes the difference! That happened to me when I first started playing. I learned on a couple cheap fiddles then a friend lead me to an awesome fiddle and I sounded a lot better on the first tune I played. Burn those strings up brother!

I bought an old hopf off shopgoodwill.com paid a $125 for it, and it came to me all apart and with the sound post rolling around the inside of it. Been the best for me...I have bought another since then and go back to that one everytime. I will probably never enjoy a fiddle as much as I have that one. Hold on to it and wear it out. It only gets better!!

As your recent post of tha interview with Tommy Jarrell reveals....It's tha fiddler AND tha fiddler. Whut good is a "Strad" if'n it do'nt meet your expectations.
