Yesterday afternoon I went to a local periodic( every month or so) OT Jam at John and Marcia Beland's place. I had jammed with Marcia before, so I expected it would be great fun, and it was...and then some. I had a blast, got a feel for some of the tunes that are in local circulation, and met some local and Tucson area musicians ( several of which are FHO members and contributors). I am re-energized and motivated to continue in the "fiddleistic" direction that I have been travelling. I can't say enough about the value of participating in venues like this. They bend you to adapt, stretch and play beyond your comfort zone...all good things towards the goal of becoming a better musician and fiddler.. All I need now is a group of local dancers to play for, and I will be as close to paradise as one can get in SE AZ. Yeah, I know, there are dancers in Tucson, but I don't really consider that local. If I have to drive more than 30 minutes it becomes an expedition for me. Not that I am totally against expeditions, its just that it is less than convenient. Maybe if i was to move to Benson it would be handier all around. Not likely to happen though, Ten minutes from work is faily persuasive on a daily "commute".
Anyhow...I am all fired up and ready for some more fiddling...Thanks to AZJohnB and Marcia ( and the Arthritis Brothers) for hosting this valuable and fun event.
