I seem to have acquired . . . an agent who wants to get me gigs.
My friend Arlene called and told me to give him a call. I did, but only got the machine. While I was out he called back and left a message and said we needed to talk the beginning of the week so he could "book me" for the month of January. Book me?
Geez, I haven't owned a calendar in years. I guess I'll have to buy one.
I'm very stunned by the ludicrousness of it all. Me? An Agent? I play oldtime, for Chrissakes! And I'm not even that . . . um, nevermind.

I hope you know "OBS" and "DWDTG". :-) Might have to pick up a small PA, too.

equipment? Ugh, that would take the fun out of it entirely. I don't do electronic crap.

Congrats!, If this is your first go around with a musical booking agent, watch him closely. I've met some real characters.

I understand, I used to work in that world years ago, and met some of them. But Arlene's been working regularly with this guy, and fact is, though I haven't seen him in YEARS (probably close to 20) I know the guy.

You can call your first CD "Varmints' Frolic", after your Easton jamming acolytes. I would suggest you use "Maggots in the Sheephide" as your title tune, but I may want to use that one when my CD comes out in 30 years.

CD? They're obsolete! Even if I was invited to a CD release party recently . . .
Beth, when are you bringing your balalaika to the jam?
Talked to Davey today. He said January is a slow month, but February and March really get hopping. Cool. That's about when my bank account is at its emptiest . . .

You can use any of my tunes on your record, "Flaxen Faire Maiden's Smelly Feet," "Shady Shad Sank the Submarine in Sweden's Sumptious Sea," and "The Wild Woof of the Dog Who Barked Poetry." And I don't even need any pecuniary recompense; all I want is your autograph or somepin like that.

And what exactly would you like me to autograph, Humbled?

this all explains the reasons for your disappearance at Don's Coffee House jam on thursdays!
You have hit the big times on Fiddle forum. :-}

My disappearance from Don's Coffee House Jams has more to do with him changing the format to a bluegrass jam format while I was away the month of November.
As long as Donald tries to run it as "an oldtime and bluegrass jam" by following a bluegrass format, he most likely won't be seeing any crosstuned fiddlers or clawhammer banjo players. There was quite a discussion about it at the Easton OT Varmint Jam Christmas Party, and that discussion was not started by me, though I could have predicted its occurrence. Interestingly enough, the discussion was started by a guitarist.
