1.
Here is a riddle:
The vi' lin and the fiddle,
are different instruments,
and yet the same,
except in name!
2.
In fiddling, it's a boon
If first you sweetly tune,
Then let your fingers fall
In pleasant places all.
3.
When tight'ning the bow,
I'd have you to know,
that between loose and tight,
there's a spot that's just right!
4.
Rosin, a necessary evil,
But don't be a sap,
and think much is a must-
or you'll choke on the dust!!!
5.
Would you bow a pleasant tone?
I'll try to make my secret known-
You mustn't use excessive pressure,
But try a stroke that's somewhat lesser,
But not too light-
Or the squeaks will affright!!!
(It also helps if your particular,
And bow 'cross the strings quite perpendicular!)
6.
If the fiddle you would play
In a quite excellent way
You must make this choice:
Think of it as a voice
And let that voice sing
As you make the strings ring.
7.
The quality of your fiddling
Is most reliably measured
Not by its zenith, nor its highest peak
But by the height of it's lowest ebb.
EDIT: MORE the next morning:
8.
The bow can play a melody,
or make the drone strings hum,
but to play a hoedown right,
Then use it like a drum!
9.
One last thing
to fiddlers I would say:
Stop working music,
to sound good you must PLAY!
Michael waxes poetic about his favorite instrument

(What got into me??? I haven't written Poe-ate-tree in YEARS!!!!
And this doggerel probably shows it...
I detect in it some Browning, some Dr. Seuss,
and some Curt Meusborn!!!)
