Just wanted to share . . .

Posted by bj on Friday, September 24, 2010

Got this email last night:

Dear BJ,
How wonderful you joined us for our 3rd Annual Fall Festival at the Hartzel-Strassburger Homestead on Saturday, September 18.
The comments we received have all been great!
The vendors and visitors were pleased that you moved around the property so that everyone had a chance to hear you. And the fiddle music was so appropriate to the period of the Homestead.
I hope you will consider coming back again!
Thank You.

Yes! Get your calendar out. You're being booked a year in advance now. That email's a keeper.

Yeah, booked a year in advance after my FIRST paying solo gig. Who woulda thunk?

Meanwhile, the whole time I was playing I was wondering what I was doing there, smiling my face off and hoping nobody was hearing how awful I was. I guess I'm not that awful anymore.

Promo package? Doors? New hat? You folks are a hoot!

Hey bj, congrats ! youre making yourself a Huge Favor, by taking Action continuosly, Action feeds Action, one progress leads you to another
it never fails !

soon youre making Tunes of your own, taken actions feeds your imagination also.Have you already written Tunes of your own ?
what a great feeling to receive a letter like You did from the festival, I bet you`re one foot taller for now...inspired for new areas of Progress, on new festivals to come.

I wish , we had as many festivals as you have out there, we have very few of them here.Thats the reason, I want to make a trip to US again,at the Spring.I can hardly wait. My taken actions on the fiddle, lately, made me compose another Country Song, thats how it works !

One inspiration feeds another ! these stories of Yours inspires the most of Us at the FHO, you have a real talent for writings as well.
so pleasant readings .....

You're funny, Eero! Actually, my reaction was shock and surprise that they'd like my fiddling at all. I felt like a fraud asking money for something I love to do but don't feel I'm any good at yet. But my situation is such that I'm not gonna turn cash money down, even if I may make a fool of myself doing so. Obviously that didn't happen.

Re composing tunes, I've been doing that since I was a kid. One of my collaborations with my friend Suze is uploaded here, though it was written and recorded prior to me taking up the fiddle. At the festival over the weekend there was a dead spot in people wandering through, and I ended up noodling a new tune or two as I was sitting there. It's pretty easy with OT tunes to take a bit here, and a lick there and come up with something "new".

I repeat myself taken from another reply of mine (anothet topic), who cares. ...The Action taken of Bluegrassers and Oldtimers at Festivals is so much different. Oldtimers wellcomes anyone to play at Jam`s, and dont mind too much about your made failures here and there, Bluegrassers may get purty Cruel with each others, when you make a misstake to Jam with them, if you`re unsecure with your playings.

Have you ever noticed this at the Festivals in US ?, I did in Arizona, I was a rookie back then and oh boy, I learned my lesson, then I went to an oldtime festival right after and Man, that was a difference, these guys showed me how to play !

Hat off for Old Timers !

Yes, that difference is real around here, too. It's one of the (MANY) reasons I play Oldtime.
