Minor Swing

Posted by Grassapelli on Tuesday, June 29, 2010

This is not so much a fiddle tune as the head of a jazz tune that gets you into the improv.

At the same time, it has been used in movies, including Chocolat.

The tab chart for Minor Swing at 100 Fiddle Tunes is close to the way I play it. That's all I can say for its accuracy, or lack there of. My philosophy is, if it sounds like the tune, that's the tune. If it sounds kind of like the tune, you can call it that or something else.

Minor swing is really fun to play and as you say, a great way to get your feet wet in beginning improvisation. It is a simple tune with a lot of handy notes nearby in the first position. I've seen folks get the hang of it quickly with this tune. Just have to get that head and then let loose!
