I sit everyday with my violin, i interact with it, i try to make it my friend not just because i want to learn it to a professional stage, but because it gives me joy whenever i hear a profesional playing, cos they are always unique. The violin is a disgusting instrument at the stage of learning(so is every other thing in life), when one still battles with knowing the names of the strings, trying to bow a string at a time, it discourages u know. But believe me friend, when u must have gone through this disgusting stage of any instrument and still persist in learning them, then u must have marked a future with such instrument, cos that is when u feal the joy in playing such instrument always. The saying that 'Nothing in life is easy at the first stage' fits into music, but in music the end justifies the means. When one becomes a virtuoso in his/her instrument, such person tends to forget how he/she started. This is simply because, such person not only draws inspiration from his instrument but is motivated knowing that he is just having fun while learning/playing. At this stage all that matter is u and your instrument. I could sit alone with my violin for 5 hours fiddling without getting tired, because it gives a life filled with joy.
When one realy gets to knw hw that same disgursting sound produced while alone, at the stage of learning gives life at the pro level; is when someone else listens to u. U will see an expression that shows fufillment. Then people will start to feal you, paying to watch u display, shouting ur name whenever ur field is mensiond, that is when u realy knw that music gives life to everybody, both to the people producing it and those enjoying it. Cos everybody enjoys it.
Thanks
Dj zuks

Very well written and inspiring! While I am certainly in the "disgusting" phase, what you have written gives ME hope. Thank you so much.

A friend of mine who is an accomplished musician always has people coming up to her and gushing about how talented she is and what a great musician she is, and how wonderful her music is. She turned to me one day and asked me, "Do you know what the difference is between them and me? To give you a hint, it's got nothing to do with talent." I said no. So she told me-- "I put in the time. They didn't."

the first time i played...
piano, i sounded like a rhino charging through the forest.
guitar, i sounded like i didn't know what rhythm was and couldn't keep the tone (soft fingies)
saxophone, my chihuahua decided to sing with me...because i was either that good or that bad. it was the first and only time she ever howled.
fiddle, i sounded like i'd decided to use my musical powers for evil. then...i got a pick up. mwah ha ha ha ha

Yeah. Thats it. The joy of a musician is the fact that he has so many other things to learn. No one knws it all, at every stage there is a goal no matter how advanced one gets. I do see people who play clarinet very well, when they play; i'll be like god these guys are good, i dnt even think they need to practice again,I had these thoughts for a long time, till one day i was downloading some stuffs tru vuclip.com, mistakenly i downloaded a clip, guess what the guy was teaching, 'how to laugh with the clarinet'. after i listend to this guy laugh with his clarinet i ws marveld. God! He ws just laughing like a human with his clarinet. Then i got to discorver that anything that deals with creativity has nothing like the best. No one can stand and say he or she is the best cos ideas keep purping. Men, i love music..

So what kind of fiddle/violin music do you listen to in Nigeria?
Djzuks Says:

Well i go tru the net to get all the neccerary lessons i need, i do not depend on the kind that is played in nigeria cos if u ask me we'v got none. Most people who play d violin here play classicals and i am fuckin tired of playing 4rm the book. So iv got no specialization. I attempt playing anything i hear. And u?

A wise friend (female) once told me that instead of trying to dominate an instrument, that I should treat it like a woman whom I loved, and then it will do any thing I ask of it. She was, of course, correct.
Music is a wonderful compliment to life.

M-D, are you sure she said "woman whom I loved"?
The sentence makes a lot more sense if "woman" is replaced by "dog"...

Yep, that's what she said. Treat a woman right, and she do about any thing ya' ask. Try to force her to do it, and she's like a cat, a wild one, and will tear you a new one. :o)

I use part of your recordings as alarmsignal, it will wake me up instantly.
Just kidding!
I like this story because I can see a lot of myself in it, remembering my first years of fiddling.
