It has been at least 4-5 years since I've been to a fiddle workshop. The one I'm going to is Maine Country Fiddle Dance Workshop, and it's going to be in February 2008. I just got a packet of sheet music and CD with tunes for me to learn.
Here is a list of ranks and tunes:
Beginner:
Bonnie Tammie
Polka de la lune
Ghandi’s War Cry
Lovely Stornaway
Intermediate:
Galway Belle
Honest John
The Crested Hen
Burnt Sugar
The Brown Cow (Miss McCleod’s Reel)
Advanced:
Petit Sarny
Hommage a la belle gaspesie
Carrie’s Canter
The Dawn
24th of June
This is a very family friendly event and is a whole lotof fun! I opted for the intermediate level. All the tunes mst be played from memory, but students don't need to know all the tunes in their level to participate. But you do need to know all the tunes from the level below them.
The advanced players start first, then the itermediates, then the beginners. Then all fiddlers play together for a dance, and friends and family are welcome to join in.
I know this is a ways off, but I couldn't resist sharing my excitement! ;D

Sounds like a great time - good for you.
The tune list is kind of sobering though.
The only one I know is "Miss McCleod's Reel" - and I'm sure they play it completely different than I do....

Two of the tunes on the list (Polka de la lune and Ghandi's War Cry) were written by Greg Boardman who is a local fiddler and I think a few others may have been written by some other local artists. So that would probably explain why some of tunes are not familiar to those reading my blog.

Sounds like fun, although like OTJ I wouldn't know most of those tunes. Who are the instructors?
