I just got back from North Carolina visitng my dad and taking part in some great old time jams in Hillsborough, Durham and Chapel Hill -- all within an easy banjo-throw or fiddle toss of Burlington. Met some great people and got to play music with some awfully good musicians. If I were able to do enough of that in TX, I might eventually be able to live up to my Banjo Hangout Home Page "Purty Good" declaration. It's an enjoyable challenge to play music with people who really know that they're doing. The more you play, the better you get.
We don't have much old time Jamming in the Dallas area, so this was especially enjoyable.
I'll be back in North Carolina in May to visit my dad and go to the Union Grove Fiddlers Convention .Memorial Day weekend. Another trip is planned for September to include the Old Time Festival in Rockbridge, VA. Is anyone else planning to go? I'll hit the NC jam circuit again, too, time permitting. But, I think time will permit.
CORRECTION April 3, 2010
Lyle Reedy of Brevard, NC, and Fiddle Hangout pointed out to me that the Union Grove Festival is on Memorial Day Weekend, not the following weekend as I had origonally posted in my FHO Blog. I guess I'll show up on the right date afterall.
