Last summer I had downloaded TablEdit, but until recently haven't done much with it. This weekend I started playing around with the program and have found a useful way to be able to use the program with learning how to play new tunes. I have found the midi optinion to be very useful with working on learning a tune that I am not as familiar with, or with a section that is giving me problems. I have found by filling the notes in and then being able to play it back with the program has been helpful in learning how to play a tune. It has helped in giving me a feel of how it sounds with the written notes that I have. I also have been able to use the program to compare several different versions of tunes that I may have the written notes for to decide which version that I like better. Having sound files of someone actually playing I feel is still necessary, but this is an additional tool that I can now add to help. There have been a couple of tunes that are played in the local jam that I attend which I want to work on learning, but have been unable to find sound clips for them here on the hangout. Now I can create a sound clip which will help while I work on trying to learn the tune.
On another note at the nursing home that I work at they are going to be holding a talent show in the beginning of May. I am toying with the idea of entering, I figure that it would probably be one of the least judgemental audiences to play in front of and it would be something that they would enjoy. I will leave an update later on what I decide what to do.

Thanks for the highlight on the program. I have recently started looking for something that would help get the feel for tunes that I hadn't heard played before.
You should definetely enter the talent show. I have never played for an "audience" before but plan to play for a group at a retirement home where my father-in-law works when I return to the states. They have been very supportive. I am sure in both circumstances they would appreciate the effort. Good Luck-Eric

Barb, you will enjoy the talent show very much. Playing in front of people is so much fun.
I have a contradance coming up in three weeks and can't wait!
Let us know how it goes.

Eric your welcome, when I first looked at the program last summer it was a little itimidating, but then I also also just starting to learn how to play the fiddle, so I had quite a bit on my plate at the time. After a little bit of time I went back to it and was able to figure out how to use it the way I wanted and with some time it has become easier to use.
I do think that I will do the talent show it is just a matter of deciding what I know well enough to be able to play comfortably and then making sure that I can get an early spot since I will be working that afternoon. I will leave an update on how it all goes.

I'm a fan of TablEdit, love it's ABC conversion feature coupled with the playback.
I used it to tab an original fiddle tune into banjo and guitar tab for my bandmates.

Yes I have made the decision that I will go for the talent show, I was talking to one of my residents last night and she asked me when I was going to bring in my fiddle. A while back I had brought it in and played for her roommate, but that day she was not there so she did not get a chance to hear. I told her I was thinking about doing the talent show in May, which she thought I should do. I also told her that I would stop by on Wednesday morning and play for her some. I know that I will at least get one vote :-)
