I bought a cheap fiddle 'cause it came with "magic" tuning pegs - which are very different from the traditional tuning pegs. Now, I need to change strings (strated playing Baroque stuff at the Boston Library) but I have NO idea how to change the things. Do I just unwind 'em like the old style pegs?? If someone would offer advice I'd APPRECIATE it.

My advice is to simply do it, one string at a time. Never take them all off at once, since the soundpost can drop if there's no tension. Seeing how they come off should tell you how the new ones need to go on. And if you get totally flummoxed, Bill MacLeod isn't far from you (transplant here on the hangout) and can help if you holler for him. He did the setup on my french fiddle and I recommend him HIGHLY.

Where's the "magic", if they don't tune and change themselves? :-) Good advice from BJ.
