I played two St Paddy's Day themed senior gigs today.
Fiddle:
Road To Lisdoonvarna
Roaring Jelly
Irish Washerwoman
Chief O'Neill's Favorite
Off To California
Maid Milking Her Cow
Si Bheagh, Si Mhor
Danny Boy
Morning Has Broken
Sung with guitar:
Fillimeeooreeooreeay
Goodbye Muirshin Durkin
Beggarman
Star of the County Down
Lakes of Ponchartrain
Molly Malone
When Irish Eyes Are Smiling
(Yeah, I give the old folks what they want at the end, after subjecting them first to a bit of more trad stuff!!!)
My fingers are SO SORE... I had to practice some of the longer songs quite a few times that I probably haven't done since last St Paddy's Day!!!!
One of those is "Lakes of Ponchartrain" which, the way I play it has lots of B minor barre chords, which I seldom play on steel string acoustic, and I think that's where a lot of the soreness is from.
I also sandwich a bit of history in between songs, and a story or two from a trip I made to Ireland in 1974.
Then there was a Bluegrass slow jam that takes place the 3rd Wednesday, which was tonight.
I almost didn't go, but it was good that I was so tired since I played more simply than usual which was better for the beginners, I think
