Two more weeks till my new baby comes home

Posted by fiddlebarb on Saturday, March 13, 2010

After spending a morning at Elderly's I am now out one mountain dulcimer, but in exchange I will be getting a new fiddle.  After spending a couple of hours playing several different fiddles I found one that I really liked.  It is a German violin from around the 1950's.  It has a crack on the front bass side which was repaired and the best part was that it was one of the less expensive fiddles that I tried.  Now all I need to do is pick up one more additional shift at work, which I shoulld be able to do tommorrow and in two weeks I will have the rest of the money that I will need.  Additionally when I finally get my tax return back I am thinking about picking up another fiddle.  My reasoning then I can let my aunt who is interested in trying to learn the fiddle have the first one that I got last year and then I can justify getting another fiddle, because honestly one fiddle is just not enough.

Congrats, Barb! And you're right, one fiddle is NOT enough!

I believe I saw pictures of that particular fiddle on Elderly's site a week ago. I had a really tough time making out the crack they referred to. But it sure looked like a sweet fiddle. And, of course bj is correct-"one fiddle is NOT enough"; which is why I only go down there once a year. The only question I have is how did you manage to only be in the "toy store" for a couple hours?

One fiddle is NOT enough, Barb. You are right.
Congratulations, as I can read the excitement in you words.
Post pics when it arrives!

Thanks everyone, BC the only reason I think I manged only a couple of hours is the fact that I am there every other week for lessons. The crack on the fiddle looks like it was repaired well, in the pictures on the site I agree it was hard to make out the crack. I was not the only one who thought it was a sweet fiddle either, one of the guys that works up in the show room who plays said he really liked it also and had thought about getting it himself.

Hey, Barb! Congradulations on your "almost, just about to get" new fiddle. Yes, I've realized that one fiddle is not enough, so I've started to drop hints to my wonderful wife. Kind of like a pre-sales pitch.

Congratulations Barb. How wonderful that you have such an early start, compared to me. But, as my French Maman used to say, "It's never too late to do good." Gaelic Storm came to Manasquan last week and their performance was sold out. I felt lucky to be there in the 5th row. What a blast. Lots of audience participation. Good playin' to you.
