Well hello thar Fiddle Hangout folk. I am currently in my 8th year as a beginer and have decided to really bear down. This "pacing myself" technique is going to get me kicked out soon. I'll be 46 in about 2 hours and that's perfect for me and my musical goals. If all goes well, I'll start growing my beard here in a few years and be a really cool old dude that plays the fiddle by 66. However I have come to the cross roads in my fiddle career and need someone to save my marrage by teaching me how to really play this thing. Someone close to Kimberling City is key right now but I can arrange other plans if neccissary. Beat the rush and be the first to teach me how. No pushing...

CA I would find a local jam session and weed out the fiddlers, one of those may be willin to teach you.....no jam session, then I would call the local music instructor at the local school and ask if they know anyone who can teach you to play the fiddle....or you may even have to say violin, LOL

You're less than 20 miles from Branson.
It's hard to believe that there aren't a lot of fiddler's around there who'd be glad to make some extra money from teaching.

Ought to be no shortage of teachers, and fiddlers, in that area. Billy Mathews lives near you, but doesn't do bluegrass, nor give lessons, per se, but for sure knows how to play the fiddle, and can tell you about that, and the music.

Need to wait another year............I'm from MO. and waited until I was 47 to start, you probably just need a little more age on you :)
seriously you've got the right attitude and that is 1/2 the battle. Best of luck.

Hey Dogcatcher, Happy Birthday. Are you trying to teach yourself by ear or do you read music? Mel Bay has a very good music book out called " You Can teach yourself Fiddle". The book is very clear and easy to understand, and will have you playing popular old tunes in a hurry, You will learn to read music which I find to be the biggest help. By the time you get through this book you'll be playin' some good stuff ,and its much easier to go on from there. Helped me a bunch in the beginning.
