I have never blogged before in my life. I guess you're never to old to try something new. A lifetime ago, I played trumpet. Never had a problem playing in front of people, maybe because I was young and didn't know any better. Later I took up guitar and eventually played rhythm backup and even sang a little at a few gigs in bars, etc. Never thought about being nervous, maybe because the "patrons" were in varying degrees of "self-medication" with the adult beverage(s) of their choice.
My mother-in-law is one of the sweetest people I have ever met- along with my wife. In fact, the entire family is very Ozzie and Harriet like. My mother-in-law and a couple of my wife's sisters along with a niece came over to our house during the holidays. Everyone was sitting around listening to my daughter play piano. I wasn't bothering anyone, minding my own business, when my wife's mom says "I want to hear Bill play"
"WHAT!?!" The blood drained completely from my head. Luckily, no vital organs were affected. I broke out into a very cold sweat. "I've only been at it a few months."
"Come on Bill"
"Remember what happened to Pebbles?" Pebbles is, excuse me, was our cat. Shortly after getting my 1st VSO, I was attempting to play something at the same time my wife was stepping out the door. The cat shot out the door like a...well... like a scared cat. Never to return. True story.
After some bantering back and forth, I knew I had lost-like I always do. I got out my Song (I wasn't taking any chances with the other ones) and proceeded to play "Name that Tune". They had no problem with "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". The whole time one side of my poor little brain is having a panic attack trying to remember what to do next; while the other side is screaming "OMG- YOU S_ _K!" I then played "My Old Kentucky Home" and a few others and lo and behold, they named them also. I thought to myself "this is wierd".

Ahhh. The old cliffhanger. Will our erstwhile hero save the fair maid tied to the railroad tracks? Yeah, I've always found it easier to play in front of strangers than family. Heck, you'll never see those strangers again. Family you can't escape.

Wasn't meant to be a cliffhanger, but Star Trek TNG came on.

Hopefully, they will keep asking you to play. My folks NEVER ask me to - not sure if we wore them out early on, or what. My husband's mom always asks us to play. Sounds like you did just fine!
