Well it finally happened...
Tonight I went to the local jam session at the coffee shop with my banjo in hand fully intending and ready to claw and hammer the night away. Then, without any warning, a friend (who knew I had been trying to learn fiddle) stood up during a tune and handed me her fiddle and said "Play this tune!"
After the initial shock and disbelief, I gave her my banjo and took the fiddle in hand and timidly began to search for the notes and the correct intonation. Two times through and I was comfortable with the tune and started giving it a bit more push. We played a few more times and then ended the tune and I felt pretty good about what I had just done. Several folks there were quite surprised that I could play the fiddle at all and I was complimented on how well I played.
I've only been at this for a short time and by no means would I call myself a fiddler just yet but I can't help but be encouraged by my fiddling debut at the local jam session tonight.
YIPPIE!
P.S. The tune was Angeline the Baker

Congratulations Gary!! I have yet to have the opportunity to go out and play with others, but I'm gonna do it soon. Aren't you glad you did?
