It turns out what I REALLY needed to get some distance was H1N1 aka swine flu!
I got it two weeks ago, and just finally got over it last night!
At first I tried to keep up my fiddle practicing, but fiddling takes a lot more energy than electric guitar, and as the flu wore on, and on, and on, I found myself playing more and more electric... partly because being sick so long and having to cancel paying senior gigs because of it put me in a grumpy mood and I really FELT the blues! I also started tweaking one of my guitars, replacing the tone pot and capacitor, and a jumper switch to get an extra pickup combination.
Then I went through all the tubes I had available for my two recently purchased tube amps, and made sure I had the best tube combinations in them.
Now I'm over the flu, but it's like my mindset shifted back 5 years to before I got back into fiddle. I had energy to play fiddle today, but no desire. Weird, huh?
I've even ALMOST posted a couple of times here, and just deleted it halfway through! Hmmm.. I must not have been feeling well!
Actually I didn't have time either... the flu postponed doing lots of little things that needed doing- raking leaves, doing laundry, shopping, taking the sick wife for a car ride, etc.
(12-1-2009)... Sigh... H1N1 relapsed AGAIN!!! :-(

Hey, Michael! Sorry to hear that you've been sick. Get well, rest up and come back soon.

Sounds like you may have gotten out of your routine. The elec. guitars might me more familiar to you, thus easier.
I'd suggest taking tiny steps, maybe playing 15 minutes at a time, and soon maybe you will get back to it.
I hope so. Sorry about the H1N1. Dang, but sounds like you're coming out of it.

It SEEMS like I'm mostly over the flu.
I have a volunteer gig tomorrow that includes fiddle-
that should motivate me for a practice session beforehand!!!

Oh man Michael. I'm glad you are better. I hope mine doesn't hang on that long.

Autumn, you didn't see the comment at the bottom of my blog- relapsed again!
Yesterday it was so bad I was dizzy and couldn't drive.
I'm feeling somewhat better today though.
A friend of my wife's had it for 3 weeks, I'm just coming up on 3 this weekend, and I hope it's
over. When I was a kid, we had 3-DAY FLU!!!
THREE WEEK flu is a bit much!
Anyway, prepare for a long haul...
