I have found that when students can't get the timing or feel for a waltz that if you literally make them waltz, they will get it right. Sure you both feel like idiots but it is a lot of fun and the student knows that if they can't get that timing right you'll make them waltz again! This is what happened to me when I was younger and in an orchestra. The conductor made us waltz! Ah...good memories.

Yep, the best way to learn to be a dance-fiddler is to play for dancers. Pick out a really good dancer, then play accordingly.
